  1.

Yes, .Net Frame Work is required to run DocsAlive.
The .NET Framework version is a component of the Microsoft Windows® operating system used to build and run Windows-based applications. It contains the run-time elements required to run applications based on the .NET Framework. It is available on Disc 1 of DocsAlive. If you have purchased DocsAlive online, you can download .NET Framework from http://msdn.microsoft.com/netframework/downloads/framework1_1/

Hardware requirements are:

Intel Pentium 3 Processor, 64 MB RAM; Audio features require a microphone, speakers / headphones and sound card. Create Video feature requires a compatible Webcam / Video camera.

Currently there are two versions of DocsAlive – for MS Office 2000 and MS Office 2003. DocsAlive 2003 requires Windows XP, MS Office Word 2003 and MS Office PowerPoint 2003. DocsAlive 2000 runs on Windows 2000 / XP, MS Office Word 2000 and MS Office PowerPoint 2000.

  3.

The next release of DocsAlive, due in August 2005, will run on Windows 2000 / XP and MS Office 2000 / 2002 / 2003.

There would be a folder starting with underscore and having the same name as that of the file. Delete this folder and then open the file.

For example, if the file name is ‘Document1', there will be a folder named ‘_Document1' in the same directory. Delete this folder and you will be able to open the file. This bug has been removed in DocsAlive 2.5.

  5. No, you don't need Windows Media Player to run audio or video files that you create in DocsAlive. DocsAlive has its own video and audio recorders and players. The video (.avi) files are very large in size. The codec (to compress video files) bundled the Windows Media Player can be used by DocsAlive to compress the video clips that you record and insert into your document. The file size can nearly be reduced by 1/10 th . When you install Windows Media Player on your computer ‘Microsoft Video 1' gets automatically picked up and is played in the list of codec when you record a video.

  6. This is the list of all the codec installed on your computer. A codec is a short form of Compressor DeCompressor. It reduces the file size. The size of the video clip can considerably be reduced by using a codec. The file size and quality will depend on the codec selected before recording the video. ‘Microsoft Video 1' is recommended from the codec list, as it comes bundled with ‘Windows Media Player' and is installed on all the machines that have Windows Media Player. Video clips that are compressed using an uncommon codec will not be played back by others who do not have it on their computer. If you do not use any codec, the file size will be very large.

  9. There is a latency delay in audio and visual. Start speaking and recording after a few seconds to reduce this delay. Just observe the picture in the video recorder, for a few seconds in the start the video recorder will not reflect any movement; once it does you can start recording. The audio and visual will be synchronized in the video clips.

  10.

No, you don't need any other software to record audio or video. DocsAlive has its own audio and video recorder. All you need is a microphone to record your audio and speakers / headphones to play back the recorded audio. A webcam or digital camera and a microphone are required to record video. You don't require a webcam to play back video, but only speakers / headphones are needed to play back the sound of the recorded video.

  11. Yes, after you record audio / video and press the close button - , you are prompted to save the file. Once you save the file, you will be asked to insert the audio/video file to insert into the document. The inserted video will display the first frame of the inserted video with a video button. You can play back this video by double clicking on the video button. Similarly, when you insert a recorded audio, an audio button is inserted at the current cursor position into the document. The recorded audio can be played back by double clicking on the audio button.

Yes, the recipient can play back the audio and video inserted into the document and you need not send these files separately.
